Moses Taylor Hospital and Regional Hospital of Scranton Joining Together Under One License

Building upon strong legacies of delivering care to the community
Michael Curran, chief executive officer of Moses Taylor Hospital and Regional Hospital of Scranton, today sent the Pennsylvania Department of Health a request to consolidate operations of the two hospitals under one license. The plan formally joins two respected histories of caring for the community with distinct campuses providing distinct services.
Moses Taylor will offer obstetrics and senior mental health services and Regional Hospital will offer medical and surgical care, intensive care and cardiovascular services. A single medical executive committee will lead the joined medical staff and the two boards of trustees will become one.
“Our vision for the future builds from the established relationship between the two hospitals,” said Curran. “Bringing the hospitals under one license is the right step to take at this time. Each hospital has a long and respected history of service with unique strengths.”
Aligning facilities and program offerings will continue to support quality care and service to Northeastern Pennsylvania. Members of the board of trustees, medical staffs and employees will be engaged in the work to coordinate services and align resources.
“In the 100-plus years that Moses Taylor Hospital and Regional Hospital of Scranton have each served the community, one thing has remained constant – the devotion of their boards of trustees, doctors, employees and volunteers to a purpose of providing quality health care to residents,” said Doug Allen chair, Moses Taylor Hospital board of trustees. “They have collaborated in service for many years and their proximity makes formal integration a logical step.”
Discussions with the state are ongoing. The goal is to complete the licensure transition later this year.
“Regional and Moses Taylor have been the cornerstones of healthcare in Scranton and this will continue,” said Mary Jane DiMattio, Ph.D, R.N., chair, Regional Hospital of Scranton board of trustees. “Together we are stronger and we are excited for our future.”
