6/29/2014
PECKVILLE, PA (June 30, 2014) – Commonwealth Health will continue its investment in the community with the July 1 opening of the Mid Valley Outpatient Center. The center will house a walk-in clinic and provide laboratory and imaging services which reflect the needs of the community, Cor Catena, chief executive officer of Commonwealth Health, said. "Outpatient centers are a vital component of the health care continuum as medical advances have made it possible to provide more procedures on an outpatient basis," Catena said. "In our ongoing evaluation of how patients use our facilities, we have seen a growing need for outpatient services here in Peckville, so we are transitioning to best serve the residents of this community."
The Mid Valley Outpatient Center will feature Priority Care, a walk-in clinic for the treatment of minor illnesses and non-life threatening injuries. Priority Care will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.
A laboratory for blood work will be open 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
Imaging services will include ultrasound, EKG and X-ray and will be provided by appointment 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. seven days a week.
The new outpatient center will be housed in the former Mid Valley Hospital. Emergency room and inpatient services were discontinued on June 30.
Full hospital services will continue to be provided at Commonwealth Health’s two other Lackawanna facilities – Regional Hospital of Scranton, 746 Jefferson Ave., and Moses Taylor Hospital, 700 Quincy Ave., Scranton.
A $2 million investment in the future will get under way at Mid Valley to enhance the delivery of outpatient services. The construction project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, providing the community with a modern and more efficient facility.
“We are responding to the needs of our patients and the community, offering the most utilized services in a convenient setting,” Justin Davis, chief executive officer of Moses Taylor Hospital, said. “The number of outpatient and laboratory services has been increasing steadily at Mid Valley over the last few years and we are pleased to continue evolving in our health care resources for the community.”
A Lackawanna Ambulance substation will operate out of the Mid Valley campus where an ambulance will be stationed for timely response to emergencies.
Catena extended his gratitude to the medical staff, employees, volunteers and board of trustees for their many years of service to Mid Valley.
