SCRANTON, Pa. (January, 2022) – Moses Taylor Hospital was recently selected as the recipient of a CuddleCot, thanks to a donation from local couple Rebecca and Jon Petrochko and their not-for-profit group, the Julia Emma Foundation. Rebecca and her husband Jon created the Julia Emma Foundation in memory of their daughter, Julia who was stillborn in April of 2020.
Rebecca and Jon grew their Foundation out of the need for awareness and the essential need for more resources for families during and after a loss. Their mission is to provide comfort to families that have experienced similar tragedies of pregnancy loss by donating a special medical device called a CuddleCot to local hospitals. Thanks to the couple's efforts and the generous donations of family, friends and the community, Moses Taylor Hospital has been chosen as the first local hospital to receive a CuddleCot from the Julia Emma Foundation.
“On behalf of Moses Taylor Hospital, we would like to thank Rebecca, Jon and the Julia Emma Foundation for their gracious donation,” said Tom Bisignani, Interim CEO for Regional Hospital and Moses Taylor Hospital. “We are humbled to be considered for this donation as it allows us to continue to provide the best quality care for our patients and their families.”
The Petrochko’s are keen to donate cuddle cots to other hospitals as well when they can do so. The cots are not inexpensive, costing thousands of dollars, but they offer invaluable emotional returns. The couple plans to continue raising funds with an aim at bringing cots to more local hospitals and eventually to hospitals across the state, country and world.
“We had to do something to help other families who experience the same tragic loss as we did,” said Rebecca. “We channeled our emotions to help fill a void that we noticed was missing in our community and set out to help families that experienced similar tragedies of pregnancy loss.”
