SCRANTON, Pa. (Feb. 1, 2019) – Commonwealth Health Regional Hospital of Scranton contributed to the community in 2018 in many ways beyond providing quality medical care. As one of Scranton’s largest employers, we contribute to the local economy by paying property and sales taxes, providing jobs and through sponsorships and donations to local organizations and groups.
We support local vendors through purchases and services and our employees do the same. We support local organizations and events through both our participation and our financial sponsorships.
In 2018, Regional Hospital of Scranton provided quality care in the form of:
- More than 26,000 emergency department visits
- More than 16,000 inpatient visits
- More than 8,000 surgeries
- More than 134,000 outpatient visits
Our financial benefits to the community last year include:
- More than $5 million in capital investments
- More than $7 million paid in property and sales taxes
- More than $6 million in charity and uncompensated care
- More than $9 million spent locally
- More than $60,000 in donations and outreach contributions
Some of the highlights of the past year:
- Expanded online scheduling with InQuicker to include new providers and for gynecology scheduling
- Added physicians: Deepika Kalisetti, M.D., interventional cardiology; Marla Osborne Dempsey, D.O., family practice; Dan Shust, M.D., family practice; Charles Hughes, M.D., general surgery
- With other Commonwealth Health acute care hospitals, entered into a partnership with Jefferson Neuroscience Network for a stroke telemedicine program
- First in the Nation: 1 of 4 inaugural winners of the HeartCARE Center Award, National Distinction of Excellence - American College of Cardiology
- Surpassed the 100-mark for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures
- Became the first hospital in Lackawanna County to perform the procedure to reduce stroke risk in people with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
- Acquired new heart/lung perfusion equipment
- Signed contract with other Commonwealth Health facilities and UPMC Health Plan for in-network access
- Renovated intensive care unit, cafeteria
- Held a successful Mammothon in October, calling on women who were past due for their annual mammograms, scheduling this important screening
- Completed generator replacement project
- Added CT scanner to Keyser Avenue Outpatient Clinic
- Installed LED lights in employee parking garages
