Berwick Hospital Center Earns 4 Stars
2/21/2020
Berwick , PA - Commonwealth Health Berwick Hospital Center is proud to announce it has received a 4 STAR rating from CMS (Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services). CMS developed the program to help consumers make more informed decisions by giving them a way to compare hospitals based on quality ratings.
Hospitals report data to CMS, which is the federal agency that runs the Medicare program, through the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program and the Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting (OQR) Program. Rating ranges from 1 to 5 stars. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures. Some of the health care quality components taken into consideration by CMS include mortality, safety of care, re-admission, patient’s experience, effectiveness of care and efficient use of medical imaging. The most common overall hospital rating is 3 stars.
“The 4 STAR rating is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our leadership, nursing staff, physicians and employees”, said Michael Herr, CEO. “We strive to continually provide high quality patient care and the 4 STAR rating confirms our commitment to our community. We are very proud of this accomplishment.”
