SCRANTON, PA (April 25, 2014) – Several hundred employees of Regional Hospital of Scranton, along with their colleagues from other Commonwealth Health hospitals, came out on April 12 to support the annual American Heart Association Heart Walk at Nay Aug Park. Elaine Walker, R.N., director of cardiac rehab and chairwoman for Regional, said Commonwealth Health was represented by more than 350 walkers who raised more than 450 monetary contributions to the American Heart Association. “Our team donations help the American Heart Association in its fight to reduce the number of deaths and disabilities resulting from heart disease and stroke. I am very grateful and proud of our employees.’’ Following the walk, a crowd assembled for the Regional Hospital of Scranton’s community bike raffle organized by James Yi, operating room perfusionist. More than 20 bicycles were donated by senior leaders, physicians and hospital staff. A picnic lunch at the Schimelfenig Pavilion followed. Regional CEO Brooks Turkel and Cornelio “Cor” Catena, CEO of Commonwealth Health and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, are co-chairing the 2014 Northeast PA Heart Ball to be held May 3 at the Westmoreland Club in Wilkes-Barre.
