TUNKHANNOCK, Pa. (Feb. 1, 2019) – Commonwealth Health Tyler Memorial Hospital contributed to the community in 2018 in many ways beyond providing quality medical care. As one of the Tunkhannock area’s large employers, we contribute to the local economy by paying property and sales taxes, providing jobs and through sponsorships and donations to local organizations and groups.
We support local vendors through purchases and services and our employees do the same. We support local organizations and events through both our participation and our financial sponsorships.
In 2018, Tyler Memorial Hospital provided quality care in the form of:
- More than 8,000 emergency department visits
- More than 5,000 inpatient visits
- More than 1,000 surgeries
- More than 28,000 outpatient visits
Our financial benefits to the community last year include:
- More than $1 million in capital investments
- More than $380,000 paid in property and sales taxes
- More than $1 million in charity and uncompensated care
- More than $780,000 spent locally
- More than $6,000 in donations and outreach contributions
Some of the highlights of the past year:
- Earned a 4-Star rating by the Centers for Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
- Reaccredited as a Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology
- Continued online scheduling with InQuicker for primary care providers
- With other Commonwealth Health acute care hospitals, entered into a partnership with Jefferson Neuroscience Network for a stroke telemedicine program
- Signed contract with other Commonwealth Health facilities and UPMC Health Plan for in-network access
- Held outreach events include a public presentation on knee and joint pain with an orthopedic surgeon
