Community Counseling Services (CCS)
Community Counseling Services (CCS) has been serving the local community for more than 50 years by offering services to people with mental health needs and to those people aspiring for improved emotional well-being. CCS provides recovery oriented services that are tailored to each person or family dependent upon their level of need.
All of our services are provided by an experienced team who can assist each person and family to attain appropriate recovery.
Community Counseling Services focuses on supporting people to remain in their homes as they seek professional mental health care. We encourage people to call Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or Thursday between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. so we can assist each person to responsibly deal with life issues.
Insurance Information
Community Counseling Services is an approved provider for Medicaid, Medicare and most insurances and managed care plans. Credit card and payment plans are also an option. Financial assistance is available for many clients. For information on payment options call (570) 552-6000.
Outpatient Counseling
Our outpatient services assist people, special groups or families experiencing various levels of emotional distress. We seek to assist consumers to attain improved emotional well-being and improved satisfaction with their lives. Outpatient counseling is provided during day and evening hours to allow consumers and families flexibility in meeting their treatment goals. Individual and family therapy is provided by licensed social workers and experienced psychiatric professionals.
Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services
Psychiatric rehabilitation is a program that focuses on restoration of mental functioning and well-being of an individual who has a psychiatric disability. Rehabilitation work, undertaken by psych rehab specialists, psychiatrists, social workers and other mental health professionals, seeks to affect changes in a person's ability to successfully interact with their environment, reduce distress and improve life success. The psych rehab program helps consumers gain independence and re-engage as successful members of the community.
The Greenhouse: A Clubhouse Vocational Program
The Greenhouse Program, the only Accredited Clubhouse in NE Pennsylvania, enables people with psychological and emotional challenges overcome barriers to employment. The Greenhouse Center Clubhouse is a psychosocial vocational rehabilitation facility, open to all people with a history of mental illness, that offers opportunities for employment, education, housing and socialization in an accepting and encouraging environment where people can recover and grow.
Clubhouse staff works alongside members and partner in each person’s recovery. Members are active participants in their recovery, rather than passive recipients for treatment. This approach improves outcomes from service participation and overall life satisfaction where meaningful relationships become vital to recovery and maintaining mental and emotional well-being. Members choose when they attend as they work on developing employment, education, living, housing, socialization and wellness plans to improve their lives.
Telepsychiatry
Telepsychiatry is one of the most effective ways for consumers to increase their access to psychiatric care. Telepsychiatry is a form of video conferencing that helps consumers connect with their physicians and other healthcare professionals to address health issues. The program improves collaboration and communication between the consumers and the treatment team, and can greatly enhance the consumer’s ability to create positive outcomes.
Psychiatric Evaluation
A psychiatric evaluation may be necessary to diagnose emotional, behavioral or intellectual disabilities. A complete medical history, personal and family history, laboratory testing and a psychiatric interview will be completed in order to accurately assess the each person’s diagnosis and the most effective treatment options.
Crisis Intervention/Crisis Residential
The crisis service is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week to provide assistance to people and their families to resolve crises or coordinate referrals to necessary treatment programs. Crisis services are necessary when troubling events occur that require immediate intervention to help individuals experiencing acute psychiatric distress. CCS also operates a crisis residential rehabilitation service to assist people in acute distress. This service, located at Wilkes Barre General Hospital, seeks to prevent inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations by offering a friendly, supportive environment where a person may stay for several days, if necessary.
Medication Management
Medications are an important component to successful treatment of symptoms from mental or emotional problems. Medications can help consumers live a fulfilling life with guidance from experienced professionals. Medication management helps minimize side effects while reinforcing the effectiveness of medications. Experienced professional staff is available to assist all our consumers to address medication concerns.
Partial Hospitalization Programs for Adults
The partial hospitalization programs are daytime services used to treat mental illness. In partial hospitalization, the consumer resides at home, but attends the treatment program several days each week to be guided and treated by trained professional staff who can help each person attain a level of recovery from mental and emotional distress. Group therapy, individual counseling, medication assessment and medication checks are integral to the program. This program seeks to prevent people with mental illness from entering inpatient treatment and enjoy improved life satisfaction.
Partial Hospitalization for Adolescents
Community Counseling Services has a specialized daytime program to assist adolescents living with mental health problems receive treatment and education at the same location. The program, located on Wyoming Avenue in Kingston, is designed to help adolescents attain timely recovery while continuing their education in an environment of professional staff who understand integrating treatment and education.
Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) Services
Community Counseling Services is the preeminent provider of services tailored to 18-25 year old youth who live with mental illness. TAY psychiatric rehabilitation services operate 3 days each week.
Children’s Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services
Behavioral health rehabilitation services (BHRS) are specially developed programs that provide a unique level of behavioral health care to children and adolescents under 21 years of age who have a diagnosed mental health condition. The goal is for children to develop the skills needed to independently function in a number of environments. BHRS programs help prevent the need for hospitalization or more intensive therapies; the treatment is provided in the home, school or community. The treatment team and family members/caregivers will implement methods and interventions from the treatment plan to help the child achieve their behavioral goals.
Community Counseling Autism Program
The Autism Program at Community Counseling Services provides highly specialized and individualized programs for both children and adolescents diagnosed with autism. These programs utilize a variety of instructional and behavioral strategies derived from best practices and research to promote individual growth and success.
In addition, our programs emphasize a multidisciplinary approach. The treatment team consists of agency staff, the family and related community resources. For children/adolescents with autism, our program promotes improvements in learning ability, development, behavior, communication and social skills acquisition. It also provides parents and staff with the tools and techniques needed to be effective in changing behavior, building necessary skills and maintenance.
Personal Care Home
Our Personal Care Home provides shelter, food, assistance and supervision for residents who require help with dressing, bathing, diet or medication management.
